Livestock Guardian Dogs

Our livestock guardian dogs guard our flock of 20+ hens

from coyote, brown bears, raccoons, foxes, bobcats, and

cougars here in Northern California.

Our chickens are free-range during the day and

are secured in their coop at night.

Regardless, our dogs protect our chickens 24/7 every day of the year.

Before we had our LGDs, we would have predators

literally tear into the chicken coop for a midnight snack!

The dogs are a cross of Great Pyrenees (France & Spain),

Anatolian Shepherd (Turkey) & Akbash (Turkey)

and are exclusively fed a raw diet blend

of meaty bones, offal & veggies.

Here is more information about our LGD dogs & puppies.

  • ZION

Zion is the sire of our puppies. He is a Great Pyrenees and Akbash cross.

He comes from Blue Oaks Ranch in Grass Valley. He is 115 pounds.

Zion is very observant and has a warm and affectionate personality.

He is also very smart and a quick learner.

He watches over the property closely and has a very gentle nature with the

    poultry & puppies.

  • ASPEN

Aspen is the dam of our puppies. She is a Great Pyrenees, Anatolian Shepherd and Akbash cross.

Small and agile for an LGD, she weighs about 80 pounds. She comes from a small ranch outside of Napa Valley.

She is an extremely alert and hard-working dog, keeping all predators out of the fenced boundaries and alerting us of anything that may be askew.

Her warm and affectionate personality make her easy to love.

What Other Farms & Homesteads Are Saying About Purchasing LGD Puppies With Us...

“We couldn't have been more excited when our baby, Banjo, became a part of our family last August, thanks to Hangs on the Homestead. The owners invest a great deal of love and attention into raising their puppies, and it was immediately apparent how comfortable and well-adjusted Banjo was to his surroundings the second we got him…

  • …We were amazed at how easily Banjo adapted to car rides and various noises, like the vacuum and chickens, which is a testament to the dedicated care Hangs on the Homestead provides during the crucial first 12 weeks of a puppy's life.”

They provided us with a information packet that helped us understand Banjo’s behavior and connected us with valuable Facebook groups (on raising LGDs), demonstrating their commitment to providing ongoing guidance and support for training our baby Banjo. They also sent Banjo home with premade meals which allowed him to adjust even better at our home. Which we are still so thankful for!!

Their approach to breeding dogs sets them apart, as they genuinely treat these puppies as cherished family members, not just pets. We cannot recommend Hangs on the Homestead highly enough for their exceptional dogs and the supportive, nurturing experience they provide for both puppies and new owners alike. They are super easy to contact as well, and have answered every silly question I have had! They are the best!!.”

Not only did they provide us with a well-bred, healthy pup, but they also took the time to answer all of our questions and offer support even after we brought Mandi home. Their passion for what they do truly shines through.

If you’re looking for a top-notch livestock guardian dog from a breeder who genuinely cares, we highly recommend Hangs on the Homestead LLC! We will definitely be back when we’re ready for another LGD.”
